The full interview, which was recorded at Drum Channel, eventually ended up as an Extra on the Adventures of Power US DVD release.

A few years ago, Ari Gold interviewed Neil Peart at the Drum Channel studios. The interview eventually ended up as an Extra on the Adventures of Power US DVD release (it will be available as a download for people outside the U.S. in a few weeks). The interview is now available as a transcript on Ari's website.

It's a fascinating interview, where Ari and Neil cover many topics, including the importance of music education in schools, karma, perseverance, filmmaking, travel, the Grateful Dead, the importance of not reading reviews of your work, and Neil's advice for parents whose kids want to become drummers.

Making Something Out of Nothing: An interview with Ari Gold

"Adventures of Power," released today on DVD, is the hilarious story of an air drummer's journey to find his place in the world. Ari Gold, the director of the film, sat down with me to discuss his own journey of bringing his film to life.

"'Adventures of Power' was probably born when I heard 'Tom Sawyer' at age 10. I became an instant air-drummer," Gold said.

Years later, Gold's connection to Rush remains strong, with "Tom Sawyer" playing an important role in the story, and Neil Peart appearing in a cameo (his first live-action speaking role).

Adventures of Power opened in AMC Loews Village 7 on 10/9, and will continue to open in theaters throughout October and November.

Adventures of Power is about a man on a quest to become the greatest air drummer in the world, and features a cameo by Neil Peart.

This was posted a week or so ago, but here's a picture of Power (Ari Gold) and Neil Peart after filming a video together at Drum Channel headquarters. Neil Peart has a cameo in the movie Adventures of Power.

There are few people I've met in my life that are as generous and soulful as drummer, lyricist, writer, and proud new father Neil Peart. Last week I was on tour with my band in Los Angeles, and Neil took five hours out of his schedule to drive up to Drum Channel in Oxnard and shoot an interview with me about the power of music to change lives. "Adventures of Power" is running a charity to support music education and Neil's a part of it. Afterwards I got in costume as Power and we shot an air-drums-versus-drums video. Drum Channel is editing it all right now and it'll be ready soon!

If you're looking for lessons on how to live a good life, how to ride the ups and downs, pick up his book "Roadshow".

Update - 2/7/08 - The trailer for this movie is available on YouTube (see below).

A new independent film, Adventures of Power, written by, directed by, and starring Ari Gold, premiered at the 2008 Sundance film festival. This film contains a short Neil Peart cameo, which would make this Neil's first live-action film where he has a speaking role, and also includes many Rush references throughout.

Ed over at Rushisaband was able to screen the movie, and has written up a great review on his website.
