Neil posted a blog entry on his website covering the final leg of the 2013 Clockwork Angels tour. It's a good one!

Clockwork Angels 2013 tour - Photo of the night picks

After each tour, I try to pick some of my favorite "Photos of the night" taken by John Arrowsmith, tour photographer and chief pyro tech for Rush. Click each image to go to the official Rush Photo site, where you can purchase these and many others.

Pick 1: June 8 @ Sweden Rock Fest

Why I like it: Captures the scope and power of a festival concert with Rush at the helm. Great view of the Clockwork stage and Neil's kit. Bonus view of the Clockwork props, especially on Alex's side.

Pick 1: Sweden Rock Fest

Pick 2: June 23 @ Jones Beach

Why I like it: Neil smiling behind the kit, having a good time. Great view of the Clockwork kit under natural lighting.

Pick 2: Jones Beach

Pick 3: May 5 @ Virginia Beach

Why I like it: The silhouette of the Clockwork drums and Neil against the "2112" intro film is dramatic. The cymbals reflecting the intense colors makes them look almost transparent.

Pick 3: Virginia Beach

Pick 4: May 9 @ Uncasville

Like the Sweden photo above, this one captures the massive Rush stage, with the focus on Neil under dramatic lighting. Bonus: Drum tech Lorne "Gump" Wheaton in his office on the bottom left. Look real close, and you'll see an extra Clockwork snare on a seat.

Pick 5: May 28 @ Sheffield, UK

Why I like it: This photo captures one of the dramatic fire effects sequences during the show. But what makes this even more interesting (from a production standpoint, anyway) is the view of the entire lighting rig above the band. It's also a good view of the Clockwork stage and prop details.

Pick 6: July 12 @ Halifax 1

Why I like it: A great view of Neil and the kit during "The Spirit of Radio." Captures the energy of the crowd during the chorus.

Vapor Trails remix and Atlantic Records box set releasing Oct 1

In case you hadn't heard (I was on vacation, so I'm just getting around to posting), Rush is releasing the long-awaited Vapor Trails remix on October 1, 2013, (Sept 30 internationally). There's also a 7-disc box set of the Atlantic Studio albums that Rush recorded releasing at the same time. You can pre-order here:

There will also be digital releases.

Amazon: Vapor Trails Remix link

More info from Rush.com (with links added by me):

The Newly Remixed Version Of Vapor Trails And 7-Disc Boxed Set Of Atlantic Studio Albums

Both Are Available On October 1 from Atlantic/Rhino (September 30 internationally)

In 2009, two tracks from VAPOR TRAILS ("One Little Victory" and "Earthshine") were remixed for the Retrospective III collection, setting you all into a frenzy in anticipation of a possible remixed version of the entire album being released one day. That time has come.

The Vapor Trails Remixed album will be available on CD, Double LP, and digital download on October 1 from Atlantic/Rhino.

"Vapor Trails was an album made under difficult and emotional circumstances -- sort of like Rush learning how to be Rush again -- and as a result, mistakes were made that we have longed to correct. David Bottrills remixes have finally brought some justice and clarity to this deserving body of our work," says Geddy Lee.

"Every song has been given a new life, from the fire of 'One Little Victory,' 'Secret Touch,' and 'Ceiling Unlimited' to the melodic musicality of 'Sweet Miracle' and 'How It Is'... these songs have been redeemed. Thank you David!"

The remixed version of VAPOR TRAILS will also be included in the new 7-disc boxed set RUSH: THE STUDIO ALBUMS 1989-2007, which features every studio album Rush recorded for Atlantic Records. The collection includes the Gold & Platinum albums Presto (1989), Roll The Bones (1991), Counterparts (1993), and Test For Echo (1996), as well as their covers EP Feedback (2004) and the Billboard Top 5 album Snakes & Arrows (2007). THE STUDIO ALBUMS 1989-2007 features each album presented in a wallet sleeve that faithfully reproduces the original artwork (except for VAPOR TRAILS, which features a reinterpreted version of the original cover) and is also available on October 1 from Atlantic/Rhino.

Neil Peart also wrote about the remix in his July 2013 update, "On These Days."

The band had recently been overseeing a remixed version of our Vapor Trails album, from 2002, as we had never been happy with how it turned out. I found that trying to listen to those songs again was too upsetting, taking me back to a mindset and emotional state that hadn't been good to live through then, or to relive now. I had to "recuse" myself from those judgments, and the Guys at Work understood, of course.

Sabian is now offering a limited edition of the 22" Steampunk ride cymbal, based on the cymbal Neil Peart used on the Time Machine and Clockwork Angels tours. These sell for (US) $549.00 and are available only in North America. 300 of these cymbals will be produced.

Here's more information from the Sabian website:

I have two of these cymbals (without the Steampunk graphics), one with brilliant finish and one without, and they sound amazing.

Here's a link to the Guitar Center listing to buy.

If you're interested in how these cymbals were designed, see this article on Sabian.com.

Kevin J. Anderson's blog: Always a Rush

In his latest blog post, Clockwork Angels: The Novel author Kevin J. Anderson takes us backstage at a Rush show in Denver. Kevin's blogs are always entertaining, but I think Rush fans will especially enjoy this one.

Here's an excerpt:

And the concert was amazing, as expected. Seeing some of the Clockwork Angels songs performed, watching the visuals that so closely match my own imagination from what I translated into the novel--it's a very moving experience for me.  I long to return to that lovely steampunk fantastic universe...but other projects call first.

Final Clockwork Angels 2013 show in Kansas City tonight

Tonight, Rush will play their last Clockwork Angels 2013 show in Kansas City, MO. To everyone going to this final show, have fun. If this show is anything like the final Time Machine show I saw at the Gorge, WA, in 2011, you're in for a real treat!
